This season’s capsule wardrobe ideas are designed for teachers in honor of our community’s Townwide Teacher Appreciation Days (April 27th-29th, 2017).
Each year a group of businesses and organizations offer discounts and freebies to area teachers, school staff, and home school families. If you are in the Hartville area, grab your school ID and snag deals all over town! Details at www.lakechamber.com/teacherappreciation
Capsule wardrobe (n): a collection of clothing that coordinates allowing for mix and match outfits, less time deciding what to wear, and thrifty shopping (wear it many times instead of once!)
- Khaki colored crop pants
- Gray skirt
- 3 dresses – 1 print & 2 solids
For the tops we picked a mix of solids and prints. Six to eight tops can be mixed and matched to make at least a couple dozen outfits! We threw in a jacket because again it’s Ohio and spring is ridiculous.
Our Favorite Outfits
The Gray Skirt
- with a pretty top tucked in
- with layered tops
- with a jacket
- layer tops over them
- layer tops under them
- add leggings or a jacket
We love button ups as a layer. Wear them alone, under another top, unbuttoned in place of a cardigan, and even knotted in the front. Look for light weight fabrics and sleeves that can be rolled.
You’ve got to love consignment shopping. Snag the brands they love without the price. Currently in stock Alex & Ani, Ugg, PINK, Under Armour, American Eagle, NIKE, Anthropologie, Vera Bradley, Free People, and Buckle.
Style from the Windy City. We have awesome accessories in our Chicago line that make great friend gifts!
Teens love their accessories and clothing to have meaning. These accessories are all locally made and support creativity and arts in our community!
FALL!!! We flipped the shop to fall Labor Day weekend and it always amazes me how different the shop looks. Yes there are new displays, coats, and sweaters, but I think the real change to the atmosphere is the change in clothing colors.
We pulled Pantone’s fall 2016 colors today and picked some of our favorite combinations. What colors do you already have in your wardrobe? Which is your favorite? Which ones are you excited to add? Join the color conversation on our Facebook page!
There are some amazing neutrals picked for this season. That warm taupe will go with anything. As all consuming as gray has been the past few years, it’s refreshing to see this gray/brown mix included. I am already keeping an eye out for a pair of boots in this color. Glad to see a pretty gray included too.
Here are some of our favorite combinations:
#1 Dusty Cedar is such an interesting pink. We love it with the blues.
This is a great combo for those of you wondering what to add to the chambray top you purchased last year. And if you are looking for a handbag for fall you can’t go wrong with this Marc Jacobs beauty. That warm taupe color is timeless.
#2 Leaf Inspired When I think of traditional fall colors this “spicy mustard” and “potter’s clay” are tops on my list.
#3 Cools If you gravitate more towards cool tones or like me are just green addicted this combo of “Lush Meadow”, “Riverside”, and “Sharkskin” is going to be your go to.
For the second year the state of Ohio is offering a Sales Tax Holiday to kick off the back to school shopping season!
When you shop at Best Bib and Tucker Friday, August 5th and Saturday, August 6th you’ll pay no sales tax. The state of Ohio has a list of items that are included (see list here) but basically it is most of Best Bib- clothing, shoes, boots, swim & athletic wear, scarves, hats, belts, and formals! Noted exceptions are purses, jewelry, and items over $75. Have we mentioned Tax Free Weekend also falls during our annual Summer Clearance? Yep, 40% off nearly storewide and you don’t have to pay tax.
See you at BBT!
Mom and I are both big fans of capsule wardrobes. It takes some of the thought away from figuring out what you are wearing every morning and makes your wardrobe more versatile- three cheers for being thrifty!
Bonus — it makes packing for vacation really easy! Take out what you wear on day one and the rest of this could easily fit into a carry on sized bag with room for toiletries and whatever souvenirs you bring home.
Here are 16 ways to mix and match this capsule. There are sooooo many more ways to mix and match them too.
The first group starts with a maxi dress as a base. Just add accessories for a simple look or add a button up for chilly days. I love wearing tops over my dresses. It turns it into a top/skirt look that adds so many more ways to wear the dress.
White capris are a great suitcase addition. They are easy to match with any top you pack and goes from casual to a dressier dinner out.
Denim shorts are a wardrobe staple. Of course they make it onto your must pack list.
The yellow in this color pallet is great for keeping it light and summery.
Happy packing (and even happier vacation)!
Capsule size 10-12. Available at BBT as of 6/23/2016. Knee High by the 4th of July SALE runs through July 2nd. 20% off shorts, capris, and mid-length skirts and dresses.
This scarf is great for those days where you have an extra minute in the morning. Or leave it tied and just slip it over your head.
Tie one end (doesn’t matter which) in a loose knot about half way down.
Open the other end and fold it into thirds.
Then accordion fold (like a paper fan) this end 3-4 times.
Slide the bow into the loose knot. Pull the end of the knot down to tighten.
It’s a myth that a capsule wardrobe needs to choose between “tan/brown” or “gray/black”. Instead the colors you choose to go with them really shape what you are able to do.
Today’s capsule started with a teal sweater and a tan dress. So often my go-to with teal is gray, so I wanted to explore what it would look like with other colors. Turns out navy and tan are great alternatives!
Our Favorite Combinations
There are many ways to combine these items. Here are a few of our favorites.
Start simple by combining 2 pieces at a time then add an accessory. Once you’ve got these combinations down add a third piece.
I’m always amazed at how an outfit changes when a top is tucked in vs left out. Too curvy when you tuck in? Try a cardigan over top.
Sleeveless dresses in winter usually mean you need a cardigan or jacket over top. But for a change up, try layering a sweater or button-up top under your dress.
Why wear one top under your cardigan when you can wear two. For chilly winter days there is nothing better than double cardigans.
Available at Best Bib and Tucker (as of 1.13.16)
Sweater (Ann Taylor) size M $11
Tie Cardigan (Pure + Good) size M $20
Button Cardigan (Lands End) size 10-12 $12
Top (Loft) size M $9
Jeans (Madewell) size 32/12 $40
Skirt (Adrienne Vittadini) size 10 $12
Dress (Calvin Klein) size 10 $30

We have put together sets of jewelry, ornaments, greeting cards, and winter accessories. We love watching people “build their forest” of Jennifer L Worden Arts trees.
You can’t go wrong with a great tote. Women are always carrying something around.
This Vera is NWT and is a great carry-on size or show your love for NEO with a Sew Appealing, LLC Where Your Heart is Tote. These totes support BBT, Sew Appealing, and FreeSet an organization that employees the women in Kolkata, India’s sex trade.
Brainstorming ideas…is she a foodie, a jewelry nut, a book lover, a fashionista, eco-conscious, favorite colors, how does she spend her day? These are starting points to picking something personal.
Ornaments can be used as package toppers. Tie them on with ribbon in place (or addition to) a bow.
Accessories are one size fits all.
Contrary to popular belief, teen girls are some of the easiest ladies to shop for. They all should have a pair of these fleece lined leggings. We’re calling the printed ones “Christmas Morning Pants”
We’re scooping out trends for fall!
Step 1 Browse fashion magazines & websites
Slip dresses, long duster jackets, pant suits, chunky blocked heels…. I just don’t know. Runway pics are extreme. There are elbow length leather gloves and furry shoes…why?
Step 2 Nordstrom
We have found time and time again Nordstrom style is usually spot on with Best Bib and Tucker customer style. The 90’s & 70’s trends from the runway are there but it’s toned down and more approachable. Seeing lots of fringe.
Step 3 Watch what BBT customers are buying
Denim is definitely trending. Jeans have been flying off the racks the last couple weeks. HS students are shopping for skinnies but our fashion trend setting college students and 30-somethings are experimenting with flares and wide legs and distressed denim.
Long cardigans & crossbody bags have been going out as quick as they come in.

Have you heard? Ohio has joined the list of states that offer a weekend of tax free shopping for back to school!
The “holiday” runs Friday, August 7th through Sunday, August 9th and includes clothing and school supplies.
Have we mentioned we have clothing at Best Bib? Like awesome clothing for back to school?
Have we mentioned Tax Free Weekend also falls during our annual Summer Clearance? Wait, What?
Yep, 40% off plus you don’t have to pay tax— can you hear the music playing too?
The state of Ohio has a list of items that are included (see list here) but basically it’s most of Best Bib. Noted exceptions are purses, jewelry, and items over $75.
In addition to falling during our clearance, August 8th is also the Second Saturday of the month. That means Historic Downtown Hartville will be full of fun! The theme is Get Out & Play with a concert in the square, food trucks, an I spy game for adults called Quail Quest (play to win gift certificates to downtown shops), and tons of games for the kids outside of each shop.
Chocolate St. will be closed but our parking lot is OPEN! You can enter and park in our lot off of 619 (by the train station) or off of 43 by turning down Mill St.
