What to Wear Wednesday: Menswear

How to wear the trend without looking like a man!

The trick is to pair a menswear inspired piece with feminine accents.  Prints like plaid, houndstooth, and argyle are often associated with men’s fashion.

Menswear plaid in a feminine pink

Pair this argyle vest with a frilly top and a skirt. Also, check out the feminine floral pin in a tweed menswear inspired fabric.

Another menswear trend is the Boyfriend Cardigan.  These sweaters hit mid-hip and often have pockets in the front.  A Mr. Rodgers zipper is optional.

Belt it to show off your curves. A lacy top under adds a feminine touch.

For an easy way to wear the menswear trend this fall try a fitted blazer.  Add jewelry to soften the look.

And as always the easiest way to join in on a season’s trend is to go with accessories.  Try loafers, wool scarves, oversized watches, tuxedo inspired shoes, fedoras, and newsboy hats.

What to Wear Wednesday: Denim Jacket

Repeat after me:

“I will not pair my denim jacket with denim pants”

That’s really my only rule for wearing a denim jacket.  While I’ve seen a few instances where this was successfully done, nine times out of ten it turns out like a 1990′s flashback.

Instead, try this fall wardrobe staple over a dress, paired with khaki, brown, black bottoms or a floral skirt, OR with this fall’s hot trend— red pants.

More tips:

  • A fitted or cropped jacket will be more figure flattering than a boxy cut.
  • When shopping for jackets, I always look for fabrics with a little stretch added so I can actually move my arms.
  • Try rolling up the sleeves of your jacket, about 3 inches above your wrist, to create a longer body line and an outfit with a little more flare.

What to Wear Wednesday: Get Ready Quick Tips

I tend to get up early, but then get distracted by my email, Facebook, and little chores around the house.  Next thing I know I only have a few minutes before I need to head out the door.  Here are three tips the BBT crew uses to get ready quick.

Barb’s Tip:  Wear a jacket.
You only have to iron the front of your shirt.

Megan’s Tip: Wear a dress.
You don’t have to worry about matching.

Erin’s Tip: Wear a headband
It will dress up your quick pony tail.

What to Wear Wednesday: Ballerina Chic

Because I spent a good part of my childhood (and 20′s) in ballet shoes, the ballerina look holds a nostalgic place in my heart.  It’s feminine, chic, and always reminds me stand a little taller.

Flowy skirts, black, white and pink colors, and a tote

Tunic tops or dresses over leggins, a little bit of lace

Pastels and a wrap sweater

Cropped sweaters, skinny jeans and ballet flats

Don't forget a headband to finish the look!

Also loving these pretty buns and updos.

What to Wear Wednesday: Nautical Stripes

Today we are rocking the boat and wearing our horizontal stripes.  I know, I know…you’ve been told not to wear horizontal stripes but apparently it’s ok.  Check out this study: Horizontal Stripes Actually Make You Look Thinner.

Try one of these looks:

Wear a jacket or cardigan over your stripes. Reds, white, blues, and golds all instill a nautical feel.

Feeling stripes are a little bold? Try a striped scarf with a plain outfit.

Not a nautical kind a girl? Try wearing stripes with plaid for a country look.

Loving getting to mix prints. Here we are mixing a navy striped cardigan with a gray, pink, red, and green floral print dress.

Stripes look great in the fall too! We can't wait to slip on this dress with a pair of knee high boots.

What to Wear Wednesday: Pretty in Pink

I believe in pink.  I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner.  I believe in kissing, kissing a lot.  I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong.  I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls.  I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles. —Audrey Hepburn

Pink Color Symbolism:
love, beauty, kindness, playfulness, and compassion

Favorite colors to wear with pink:
gray, black, navy, purple, tan, and lime green

Bet you didn’t know:
Bubble gum, invented by Walter Diemer in 1928, is pink because that was the only color dye they had available in the factory.  The color “stuck” and has been used for Double Bubble ever since!

What to Wear Wednesday- Stacked Bracelets

Fall Trend Alert!
What an easy way to add some interest to an outfit.

General Tips:

  • Lay out a bunch of bracelets and just start putting pieces together.
  • Vary widths and mix textures
  • Play with color, don’t be afraid to mix a couple.
  • If it doesn’t look right try changing the order or add or remove a bracelet
  • Pick up inexpensive pieces at consignment shops, thrift stores, and juniors shops like Charlotte Russe and H&M
  • Stack bracelets on one arm only.  Leave the other arm bare or wear a single skinny bracelet.
  • If you are right handed wear your stack on your left arm so they won’t get in the way when you are writing. (Vice-versa for lefties)

Coordinate Colors

All one color: Gold Tone

Mix textures: Leather, Denim, Copper, and Fabric

Add a Watch
