Those yellow underarm stains that appear on your white shirts are caused by a reaction between the aluminum in your deodorant and your sweat. They can be really difficult to remove.
Here’s a simple pantry combination to try for white washable fabrics.
Soak the area in a mixture of equal parts water, baking soda, and peroxide (about 1/4 cup of each). Gently scrub with a toothbrush to remove any particles then wash as usual.

would you recommend this for colored fabric?
Regular hydrogen peroxide is pretty dilute and I would feel comfortable trying it with colored fabric. Plus, I figure what do I have to loose. I’m just going to throw the top away if I can’t get the stain out so I might as well give it a try.
I have used and still use 2/3 peroxide and 1/3 Dawn, spray pits, scrub, spray, scrub, wash. Works will on pit stains as well as other stains AND on color garments.
Isn’t dawn amazing…definitely one of our go to supplies for stain removal! I bet it would help with any deodorant build-up in the fabric. Thanks for the tip!
Tried this but it did not work for me…
Hi Leslie,
I’ve found that with old/set in stains it helps to soak longer and increase the amount of peroxide.
I just have to tell you I am MOST excited about this post only because your baking soda is from Beilers Penn Dutch market! It’s a reminder of my FAVORITE store. We’re military and stationed in N. Carolina no markets even remotely close to good old Beilers!
@Avien- Glad we could bring a little NEO to your home. Beiler’s is a weekly stop for this house!
